In Vietnam dedicated server, Internet Service Provider (ISP) typically describes bandwidth as a data transfer rate.
It is the amount of data that network transports from one place to another during a particular timeframe. The time specified is often one second. Now, most ISP refers to the type of bandwidth as Megabits per Seconds / mbps, Kilobits per Second / kbps. In some cases, when more bandwidth is demanded, the providers will need Gigabits per Seconds / Gbps. Moreover, a high bandwidth link can transport enough data to display heavy content as live video streaming, video event, popular websites, cloud hosting and so on.
About Bandwidth and Internet Traffic
In the field of hosting, the providers use the word “bandwidth” when they describes the traffic that is used by services such as dedicated server or cloud hosting over the course of a month. So, to calculate a user’s bandwidth demands, most of the providers estimate the terabyte (TB) amount. TB is a measure unit represented for the amount of data that a provider moves in and out of the network per month for a dedicated server.
You have to keep in mind that the hosting providers connect their dedicated server to the network with routing device to other networks. User’s dedicated servers are connected to the hosting infrastructure with switches. Besides, the switches will have a port size which measures from 100 Megabits per Second / Mbps, up to 10 Gigabits per Second / Gbps. Port size can be a factor when the hosting provider allow you to access an unmetered dedicated server because your network can use more bandwidth with a larger port size. And the term “unmetered” is restricted by the port size.
Actually, bandwidth regulates the amount of data which a dedicated server can deliver to and from the internet. For most companies, 10 TB of monthly bandwidth allotment is large enough to transfer the data which they use. However, some companies will need more. They can need a bigger port size. For example, the data centers need multiples of 10 Gbps of uplink to provide service to a large number of customers while a small website owner should be served their users with a 100 Mbps port. If you do not ensure on what choice would be best for you, let’s ask the next hosting provider for a second look on this issue.
About the 95th percentile
Many hosting providers can use the 95th percentile to caculate a network connection’s continuous use. The ISP will sample the current user bandwidth use at a set cycle. Every 5 minutes per example. Afterward, 5% (approximately 36 hours per month) of the samples will be excluded to remove peaks of traffic that may occur. This method will save users a lot of money that has sustained a few peaks of traffic out of the ordinary. Remember that the providers typically use the billing method for corporate network connections or users with large bandwidth demand.
To choose your best dedicated server, make sure to consider the location, available resources and security. Server environment is another important thing as the proper atmosphere can result in equipment which lasts longer consistently. When you choose the proper bandwidth for your server, your company’s operations are more likely to operate reliably.
